What is graphite polystyrene?
Graphite polystyrene (EPS 031/032) is an enhanced version of standard polystyrene, enriched with graphite particles. These microscopic additives reflect infrared radiation within the material, significantly reducing heat transfer. Graphite polystyrene achieves a thermal conductivity of lambda = 0.031 W/(m-K), while standard white polystyrene has lambda = 0.040 W/(m-K).
In practice, 15 cm of graphite polystyrene provides better insulation than 20 cm of white. This is particularly important when insulation thickness is limited — e.g., narrow sidewalks, eaves, or property boundaries.
